Visitors
Mount Gretna has been a favorite destination to visit for over 125 years.

You may want to start your visit at the Information and Visitor Center located in the old Mount Gretna Post Office in the Chautauqua on Carnegie Avenue west of the public parking just off Route 117.

The Information Center operates from Memorial Day until Labor Day.  Regular hours of operations are from 12:30 PM to 5:00 PM Wednesday through Sunday.  Information about the area and its events can be found outside the Center at all hours. Please note hours will vary as our summer staff person heads back to school in mid-August and we rely on volunteers from there on.

Take a walking tour of the Pennsylvania Chautauqua at Mount Gretna, a National Historic District, which includes the unique architecture of the cottages, the Hall of Philosophy (available for rental), the Playhouse, the Chautauqua Literary and Scientific Circle building (now Kirsch's Antiques), The Jigger Shop (our famed ice cream parlor) and other buildings.

Visit the Mount Gretna Area Historical Society on 206 Pennsylvania Avenue (next to the Playhouse) and step back in time as you enter this circa late 1890's cottage. Listen to the original carousel organ and see displays of the military encampment, original carousel animals, Campmeeting and other iconic images and objects of the Mount Gretna area. The Society is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm Memorial Day through Labor Day or contact them HERE by emailing for an appointment..

Stroll along the paved paths of our park lands and enjoy the shade our mature tree canopy provides which keeps us cooler than the surrounding areas.  Bring children to our play ground near the Hall of Philosophy or check out the tennis pavilion (available for rental).  We have dedicated it to Stacey Pennington and called it Stacey’s Place.

Explore our website for events, activities and links to our surrounding area.
